From having a 14' aluminum fishing boat since high school, Ben Andrews accumulated enough days at sea to obtain a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariners Captains License. Amazing! Surf trips, fishing, and being a fisheries observer have made up the vast majority of his days at sea. Ben’s proudest honors include being an uncle to three nephews and a niece, as well as being an invitee to the 2010 Mavericks surf contest. Besides surfing, Ben has a knack for fly-fishing, sparked during a college internship with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. He ultimately graduated from Cal Poly S.L.O. earning a B.S. in Ecology and Systematic Biology - with a concentration in Marine Biology and Fisheries. In 2003, he spent over nine months circling the globe - fulfilling a lifelong desire to surf faraway countries. According to Ben, traveling is the best thing anyone can do - it opens the mind, gives us perspective, and makes us appreciate our fortunes.
