Since then, he has lived his life in and around the ocean. He says that being in the salt water is his comfort zone. Ben graduated from Cal Poly S.L.O. earning a B.S. degree in Ecology and Systematic Biology with a concentration in Marine Biology and the Fisheries. He spent over nine months in 2003 circling the globe and fulfilling a life-long desire to surf in faraway countries. According to Ben, traveling is the best thing anyone can do ... it opens the mind, gives us perspective, and makes us appreciate our fortunes. Since returning from his travels, Ben has worked as a fisheries biologist throughout the Bay Area. In his off time, other than surfing, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, fishing, free diving, jam sessions, cooking, editing film and enjoying life's simple pleasures. He also volunteers time teaching underprivileged elementary school kids about local wildlife through field trips and classroom visits. He is the proud uncle of two nephews and a niece. Ben has a 14' aluminum boat in which he has captained many missions. He has made dozens of trips to the Ranch, has ridden waves on offshore central coast reefs (in the boat) and has had numerous successful fishing excursions including his favorite, Marin county salmon trolling trips. He has decided to put all of his time at sea to good use and is in the process of applying for a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariners Captains License.
